Climbing for Wellbeing

Climbing for Wellbeing has teamed up with Yonder and Waltham Forest to provide free instructed bouldering sessions for those living in the local area (Waltham Forest) who may find climbing helpful in managing their mental health.

Bouldering is an extremely social and uniquely non-competitive sport. The benefits of bouldering and climbing as a mindful practice, used as part of mental wellbeing management and as a social activity, are now widely recognised.

There are climbing challenges for everyone at Yonder from total beginner to expert- you do not need to have climbed before!

Your one-to-one classes will be guided by a friendly and supportive instructor in a series of weekly sessions, and you will be encouraged to set and achieve your own goals each week.

Meet the Organiser

Pete Bennett is an artist, musician, writer and climbing instructor who has lived and worked in east London for most of his adult life.

First honing his climbing skills as an RFS Certified Arborist he concurrently worked as Events Coordinator for Hackney mental health charity, Core Arts, producing the book and curating the exhibition ‘Creative Journeys: Responses to Mental Heath in Hackney’ for Hackney Museum.

In 2017, realising the benefits of climbing as a way of managing mental health, he decided to combine these two vocations and qualified as an Climbing Wall Instructor, founding Climbing For Wellbeing, which has been running courses at climbing gyms in east London, the most recent at Yonder in Walthamstow.
